The Hyacinth Macaw Institute is starting a new project in the south of Pará to study and protect the hyacinth macaw in the Amazon biome, with a focus on science, conservation and environmental education. The project is being carried out in strategic partnership with the Vale Institute of Technology (ITV) and Vale, joining forces to increase the impact of conservation in one of the country’s most biodiverse regions.
A new chapter in the Amazon biome
The Hyacinth Macaw Institute is beginning a new stage in its trajectory, this time in the Amazon biome. The project aims to study and protect the hyacinth macaw in southern Pará, starting with Canaã dos Carajás and neighboring municipalities. The initiative will last at least two years and will be guided by scientific research, practical conservation actions and environmental education programs. With decades of experience in the Pantanal, the Institute is now taking its accumulated knowledge to a new territory, expanding its mission and connecting new communities to the cause of conservation.
Scientific studies on the hyacinth macaw in the Amazon
The hyacinth macaw is one of the most symbolic species of Brazilian fauna. In the Amazon biome, its presence is still poorly documented – which makes this project fundamental for advancing scientific knowledge about the species. The Institute’s team will carry out detailed field surveys, mapping areas of occurrence, habits and threats faced by the birds in this region. The goal is to generate reliable data that will contribute to conservation strategies adapted to the Amazonian reality.
Environmental education as a tool for transformation
One of the project’s pillars is environmental education with a community focus. The Hyacinth Macaw Institute will promote meetings with local residents, lectures in schools, awareness campaigns and practical activities. The aim is to strengthen the bond between the population and the territory where they live, awakening a sense of collective responsibility for protecting the hyacinth macaw and the entire ecosystem around it.
From the Pantanal to the Amazon: science with purpose
More than expanding its territory, the Hyacinth Macaw Institute is expanding its impact. The scientific and methodological baggage acquired over decades in the Pantanal is now added to the challenges and opportunities of the Amazon. The goal is clear: to protect the hyacinth macaw, contributing to the species’ Conservation Management Plan and helping to establish public policies for the habitat as a whole – as well as forming a local support network committed to environmental conservation. The Amazon has welcomed us with generosity. In return, we offer dedication, listening and action.
Join the transformation
The arrival in the Amazon biome marks a new moment for the Hyacinth Macaw Institute – and you can be part of it. Follow our actions, share our mission and help give visibility to the cause.
