Partners

Although the Hyacinth Macaw Project began as a personal initiative in 1990, it has only continued and been carried out without interruption all these years due to partnerships with companies, institutions and individuals.

The Hyacinth Macaw Institute currently has a sponsorship policy that relies on the commitment of people and companies, many of them loyal over the years, such as Toyota and the Toyota do Brasil Foundation.

As a Sponsorship Policy for Legal Entities, the Instituto Arara Azul has partners who are distributed, depending on the donation, in the ARARA; MANDUVI; ACURI AND BOCAIÚVA categories. This option also includes SUPPORTERS who contribute goods and/or services.

In Campaigns, there is the option to “ADOPT A NEST” and “ADOPT A CHICK”.

For being free-lease cars, the vehicles are exchanged for newer versions, whenever needed. Currently, the Instituto Arara Azul with 4 Hilux units, lent by Toyota, which are used for projects and actions of the institute.
In 2005 and 2006, Neiva Guedes gave lectures to employees of Indaiatuba and São Bernardo do Campo plants. They also collaborated with the project, by making small donations and receiving exclusive products.
Toyota do Brasil is considered the official sponsor of Instituto Arara Azul. Although many people have contributed, Sidney K. Kakazo, Ricardo Bastos, George Alberto Costa e Silva, Mariana de Moraes, Otacílio Nascimento, Thais B. Guedes and Thais Rebequi were and are fundamental so that the partnership between Toyota and Instituto Arara Azul were enhanced, with the creation of Toyota do Brasil Foundation in 2009.

As of 2010, Instituto Arara Azul started being officially sponsored by Toyota do Brasil Foundation and, in 2012, started the construction of Sustainability Center and Headquarters of Instituto Arara Azul, opened in November 2013.

Today, Toyota do Brasil Foundation is in ARARA Sponsor category, according to sponsorship policy incorporated by Instituto Arara Azul.

UNIDERP

www.uniderp.br

Universidade Anhanguera Uniderp is partner of the Institute Arara Azul. Everything started in 1994, when Neiva finished her Master’s degree and decided to continue in Projeto Arara Azul. At that time, the researcher has managed to gather resources for equipment and activities in the field, but not for her salary.

After staying over six months with no personal compensation, Neiva Guedes was hired by the old Superior Education Center of Campo Grande (CESUP), current Universidade Anhanguera-Uniderp. At the occasion, in a gesture of great insight from the dean, Prof. Dr. Pedro Chaves dos Santos Filho, the biologist could dedicate herself exclusively to researches, which have carried on uninterrupted. From 2003 to 2011, the University hired a research assistant to focus on field work. Uniderp has created a second field base, at Instituto de Pesquisas do Pantanal (IPPAN) and at Araraúna Inn, as well as the support to lab and veterinarian hospital analyses in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. With the implementation of Post-Graduation Program in Environment and Regional Development, at the University, Neiva Guedes started to be part of the teaching staff, guiding graduate students in Scientific Initiation and improvement. In 2009, with her PhD, Neiva started to guide MA and PhD scholars.

During all these years, professor, surveyors and scholars of Universidade Anhanguera Uniderp have associated to Instituto Arara Azul and develop researches in the veterinarian area (Prof. Dr. Maria Del Carmen Lamazares and Prof. Msc. Flávio R. Araújo, Prof. Msc. Valter Vilela), geoprocessing (Prof. Luis Paiva and Prof. Dr. Silvio Jacks), biologist (Prof. Dr. Eliane Vicente), agronomist (Prof. Dr. Silvio Favero), chemist (Prof. Dr. Rosemary Matias), ecologista (Prof. Dr. Ademir Kleber M. Oliveira), parasitology (Prof. Dr. Vânia Lúcia Brandão Nunes), tourism (Prof. Dr. José Sabino) and biologists Helder A. de Souza, Ricardo Soares, as well as scholars: Antônio dos Santos Junior, Fernand Mussi Fontoura, Angelita Montano, Larissa Tinoco Barbosa, Edson Lino Diniz Pereira, Emilia Alibio Oppliger and Kalyenny Rabenhorst, many of them masters and doctors.

Caiman

www.caiman.com.br

In 1998, Roberto Klabin offered the first field base to Projeto Arara Azul. Through an agreement with Uniderp, Caiman gave a house to researchers and also built a Visitor Center for Projeto Arara Azul.

This base was a milestone for the project, because, for the first time, it was possible to gather a permanent field team. In its majority, the researches started being carried at R. E. Caiman, with the artificial nest installation and natural nest recovery. On an area of 52 thousand hectares, over 60 natural nests were registered and 60 artificial ones were installed. With so many cavities, hundreds of hyacinth macaw couples who lived near came to reproduce in the Caiman, which became a real “center of reproduction”. Thus, not only the hyacinth macaws’ population was benefited, by tripling, but also other bird species who started using the nesting boxes.

In 2006, Roberto Klabin demolished the old house and gave new space for researchers, built a lab and revamped the Visitor Center, where hundreds of guests stopped by every year.

In 2012, the field base of Projeto Arara Azul moved to Retiro Novo, counting with a wide space for the Visitor Center and Lab for research.
