Our headquarters and Sustainability Center is in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul,the same city where the Urban Birds: Macaws in the City Project is carried out . Here we do most of our general administration and coordination work, and it is also the research base for the Urban Birds Project. This is a reference point if you want to contact us, either to visit us, participate in environmental education activities, or even do an internship or volunteer work with the macaws in the city (according to published edicts).

Field Base in Caiman

To carry out the Hyacinth Macaw Project, we have a field base at Caiman, in the Pantanal of Miranda sub-region.

This base is essential to the logistics of our actions. From there, we are able to monitor Hyacinth Macaws and other species that occupy the same cavities and interact with the species. Besides the team with our researchers and assistants, we also host associate researchers and interns.

Inaugurated in 1998, by invitation of Mr. Roberto Klabin, the base initially consisted of a staff house and a visitors’ center. Its inauguration was a true milestone for the Hyacinth Macaw Project – which until then, had its practical part developed by Neiva Guedes, mentor of the project. With the base, more people could be integrated into the Project, expanding it.

In 2006, with a major renovation made by the owner Roberto Klabin, the Hyacinth Macaw Institute gained a new space for researchers, with a laboratory, in addition to the visitor center, which was also renovated.

In 2012, another major change: the field base was transferred to Retiro Novo, within the Ecological Refuge area, gaining an independent and even more comfortable infrastructure at a distance of 17 km from Caiman’s headquarters.

With the transfer, we are now able to host up to 8 researchers/assistants in a structure that includes a kitchen, TV room, office, large dining room and a small laboratory for preliminary biological evaluations. In addition, there is a Visitor’s Center to welcome you!
